From the Principal's Desk
Hello and warm welcome to all the students who have taken admission in Vivekananda Mission Mahavidyalaya and those who have peeped in to check the academic credibility of our loved institution. I sincerely hope that our newly designed website has helped to meet their curiosity.
Swami Vivekananda preached that education must aim at fostering the innate perfection and enabling its expression. He also believed that education must focus on producing individuals who are strong in mind and body, conscious of their duties and responsibilities, and who are not afraid to take the path of righteousness. Founded by Vivekananda Mission Ashrama to execute these goals in practice, Vivekananda Mission Mahavidyalaya has tirelessly endeavoured towards this goal and has established itself as one of the most trusted higher education institutions of the district.
Our college offers both undergraduate and postgraduate courses for the students. At present we have 15 honours courses in the undergraduate section and 3 masters courses in regular mode in Bengali, History, and Philosophy affiliated to Vidyasagar University. Added to this, the college has a study centre of Netaji Subhas Open University which also offers both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in distance education mode. Keeping in mind our social responsibility, the college provides valuable extension services through its NCC and NSS units. Excursions, sports & cultural competitions, educational tours are regularly arranged. Our college has continuously achieved remarkable success in sports at the university level, particularly in Kabaddi and Kho-Kho.
Our academic record is also pretty enviable. Our students have regularly secured good marks and ranks in university examinations. For the last few years the success rate has been almost hundred percent. Rate of progression to higher education is also quite high considering the socio-economic conditions of the locality. For its academic and comprehensive performance, the college has been accredited Grade 'B‘ by NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council). SAAC (State Assessment and Accreditation Council) also assessed the college in 2009 and 2013 and, satisfied, allotted funds for further development.
With time, the college has taken adequate steps towards digitization of campus, infrastructure, and extension of digital facilities to students. We have broadband internet facility for students and staff. The students can access e-resources in the ICT laboratory. We have 4 ICT enabled classrooms, 1 state-of-the-art seminar hall, and 1 smart-room. The KOHA enabled Central Library provide access to NLIST (from INFLIBNET) wherefrom they can access national and international journals and books. The Central Library of Vidyasagar University can also be accessed by our students and faculty members. The departments also have functional libraries. The college regularly publishes annual magazine, departmental wall-magazines and webzines.
During the period of pandemic, the college regularly conducted online classes with success, arranged a number of webinars, ensured students’ participation in cultural and extra-curricular activities. The academic regularity was maintained by everyone in these troubled times. Our institution practices regular mentor-mentee interactions so that every student can convey his/her problems to the authority for immediate solution.
We provide hostel facilities for both boys and girls to enable students from remote areas to pursue their goals. The Girls’ Hostel and the college building have CCTV cameras installed for security reasons. Overall, the college boasts of a peaceful, secured environment conducive for studies. The serene ethos of our college has been achieved by the tireless striving of our teachers, non-teaching staff, other associates, and all the stakeholders.
The world is moving like a torrent where we have to survive and carry our wards to the shore of glory. In this journey, I congratulate my fellow teaching and non-teaching staff for their active and fruitful participation. This is no time to stop and smell the roses. We aspire for the dream of Tagore, to reach that space—
- Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high
- Where knowledge is free
- Where the world has not been broken up into fragments
- By narrow domestic walls
- Where words come out from the depth of truth
- Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection…

Vision and Mission
Not wavering from the humanitarian and altruistic principles laid down by Swami Vivekananda, Vivekananda Mission Mahavidyalaya believes in imparting value-based quality education to the students of this rural area so that they can compete with their urban counterparts on equal terms and be victorious in the battle of life. The institution strives after comprehensive social development by sustaining the academic ambition of the less privileged students. Named after Swami Vivekananda, the College believes in the ideals of the monk that education must provide “life-building, man-making and character making”. We, at the Vivekananda Mission Mahavidyalaya aim to develop an integrated person – one who has learned how to improve his intellect, purify his heart, handle his emotions and stand firm on moral virtues and unselfishness. At the very portal of the institution, the immortal words of Swami Vivekananda “Be Man & Make Man” are inscribed in Bengali– “Esho Manush Hao”. By strengthening our students in both mind and body, the college aspires for making the ideal youth of India that Swami Vivekananda envisioned.
The mission of the institution is:
- To promote educational, cultural, social knowledge and exercise of physical abilities among the students irrespective of caste, creed and religious faith
- To inculcate values and virtues in our students
- To train the students to execute the classroom ideas into real life and become a good citizen
- To motivate the students in comprehensive and continuous learning
- To help the students to realize their inherent potential and choose the right path of life
- To promote originality and creativity in the students
- To instil in the students the sense of duty and responsibility to society and the nation
