Distance Mode of Education

Along with imparting higher education in the regular mode, the College has also been involved in distance mode education. It has been running a Study Centre (I-03) of Netaji Subhas Open University since July, 2007. The Study Centre has affiliation for the following courses.

  • Bachelor’s Preparatory Programme (BPP): Duration - 6 months.
  • Certificate in Human Rights (CHR): Duration - 6 months.
  • Bachelor of Library and Information Science (BLIS): Duration - 1 Year.
  • Bachelor’s Degree Programme (BDP): Duration - 3 Years.
  • Post-Graduate Course (PG) - 2 Years

However, at present the study centre conducts only three courses. While the Bachelor’s Preparatory Programme (BPP) has been withdrawn by the University from January, 2010, Certificate in Human Rights (CHR) is not much in demand in the locality.

The study centre has evoked satisfactory response in the locality evident from the fact that there has been regular enrolments in all the three courses that are presently running. While this year 71 learners have sought admission to Bachelor’s Degree Programme (BDP), 42 have enrolled for the Post-Graduate Course (PG) and 18 for the Bachelor of Library and Information Science (BLIS). Though earlier the Bachelor’s Degree Programme (BDP) used to offer 14 subjects (7 in Arts, 6 in Science and 1 in Commerce) at present restrained by the July 2009 University order that has restricted the study centers all over to admit students only in the subjects as specified by the University we offer only Bengali, English, History and Geography to the students. A proposal to open Sociology is lying with the University authorities. As far as the Post-Graduate Course (PG) is concerned we enroll students in 11 subjects like Bengali, English, History, Political Science, Education, Social Work, Public Administration, Mathematics, Commerce, English Language Teaching and Library and Information Science. Classes however of only the Bachelor’s Degree Programme (BDP) are held in the college campus on Sundays. Other classes are centrally organized by the University in selected study centres.
