Counselling Services

The college provides the following kinds of counselling service to students.

  • Academic - There is a counselling system in place that counsels the students at the time of admission. While admission to Honours Course is strictly based on the Merit score of the student that is indicative of the student’s proficiency in that subject, the counselling process comes handy in guiding the students in their choice of Elective subjects. Moreover, throughout their stay in the college, the students feel free to approach the teachers in any kind of academic need, and the teachers are more than happy to oblige them.
  • Personal and Psychological - There is a Personal and Psychological Counselling Cell functioning in the College, which helps students to cope with the stress and strain in their personal and academic lives. Prof. Asim Kumar Mandal (Assistant Professor in Philosophy) and Prof. Minati Sau (Bhowmik) (Part-time Permanent lecturer in Bengali) act as counsellors and counsel students on their problems. Workshops have been conducted by the cell and resource persons from Jadavpur University have come to interact with the students. A group of ten counsellors including Dr. Sadhan Chakraborty, Professor, Dept. of Philosophy, Jadavpur University came to the college on 30.08.13 and had daylong interactions with the students. While in the first session, they enlightened the students on the general nature of personal and psychological problems confronting us today and the therapeutic effect of counselling, later they sat with the students individually to hear them out and counsel them. The Cell functions after College-hours on Saturdays.

Career - Understanding the importance of the fact that our duties do not end only with academic enrichment but extends to making the students job-ready, a Career Counselling Cell is in place. At present we in the college only provide students with information about various competitive exams. Placement services as such are yet to begin.
