Stakeholder Representative Bodies

Students' Union

Any college with affiliation to Vidyasagar University has its own Students' Union to protect the rights of the students. The students of our college also elect members of the Union annually. The University has put in place an extensive framework for the activities, functions and constitution of the Students’ Union. For example, only those students who have paid the session-charges and tuition-fees for at least two months prior to the month of election are allowed to vote. The Students’ Union elections are also slated to be over within the first three months from the beginning of the new academic session i.e. before the commencement of the Puja vacations. Moreover, a four member election commission has to be constituted by the Governing Body to disburse the statutory duty of conducting the elections.

The student representatives elected by the students go on to elect the Students’ Union office bearers, such as Vice President, General Secretary, Asst. General Secretary and the secretaries to the different Union offices - Culture, Sports, Magazine, Aid-Fund, Common Rooms and Science. Two teachers are deputed as in-charges of each respective office to help the Students’ Union in disbursing the activities of that particular office. The funding comes from the Students’ Union fee of Rs 130.00 collected annually from the students. The Principal (ex-officio President of the Students’ Union) sits down at the beginning of each academic year with the Union members and the teacher-in-charges of the respective office of the Students’ Union to frame the budget for that particular year. Allocations are made taking into account the kind of expenses the Union members feel each of the respective offices will incur.

The Students' Union of our college came into existence in the year 1974. This statutory body has been playing a vital role in promoting academic, scientific, cultural and social interest among the students. It also helps the administration to maintain discipline in the campus. The important activities of the Union are itemized below:

  • To organize Inter-class debate, sports-competition and cultural events.
  • Publication of annual magazine and various wall-magazines.
  • To organize recreational activities for students.
  • Addressing the grievances and problems of the students.
  • To co-ordinate the relationship between the staff and students.
  • Managing the ‘Students’-Aid-Fund’.
  • Social-welfare activities.
  • To observe and commemorate special days like National Science Day etc.

They also hold regular Alumni Association meetings. There is a room in the college set aside for the Alumni Association.
