  2. Objectives of the Practice:

For fast and efficient management, Vivekananda Mission Mahavidyalaya aims to achieve-

  • Digitized administration
  • Students’ 24/7 access to learning resources
  • Updated online management of finance
  • Eco-friendly e-management aimed at ‘save paper, save trees’
  • Faster communication between students and the institution.
  1. The Context: For smart education, the institution implemented cloud-based ERP software to digitize the teaching-learning process. Online management of admission, form fill-up etc. largely benefit the students who can’t attend college regularly. E-management of administration enables teachers and non-teaching staff to access learning resources and check service data like PF.
  2. The Practice:

The goals are achieved by-

  1. Online Admission through specific portal
  2. AIMES CORE (Student Management System) handling issues like Student Admission Data, Student Fees Management, Student Attendance etc.
  3. HR management system for employees facilitating Leave Sanction, Student Attendance Register Maintenance (Faculty End) etc.
  4. Store Management system for preparing asset register, bill processing, maintenance of stock records etc.
  5. Regular feedback from Students, Parents, Faculty, Alumni; feedback analysis and actions taken
  6. Student Dashboard for paying fees online, form fill-up etc.
  7. Financial Accounting to prepare Budget, Voucher Creation (Journal, Payment, Receipt, Purchase, Sales, Debit Note, Credit Note, Contract Entry) etc.
  8. Students’ online access to central library and study-materials from ERP
  9. Financial transactions through digital platforms like HRMS, IFMS and PFMS
  10. Digitization of the library through KOHA
  11. Accessibility to academic resource site like NLIST from INFLIBNET
  12. PO-CO attainment through separate portal
  13. Recording internal and external marks through faculty log-in in university portal
  14. Online registration for scholarships, renewal and disbursement

Problems:

  1. Lack of e-literacy among first generation learners
  2. Lack of personal internet devices among economically weaker students
  3. Inadequacy of computers for students use inside the campus
  4. Long power cuts and interrupted internet services

  1. Title of the Practice: Clean Earth, Green Earth
  2. Objectives of the Practice:
  • Spreading environmental awareness among students and common people
  • Increase the Green inside/outside campus
  • Eco-friendly measures in the campus
  • Effective waste management by taking the three R mantra—reduce, reuse, recycle
  • Engaging students in hands-on cleaning programmes and plantation drives.
  1. The Context:

The college lies close to both Haldi and Hooghly River. The locality is vulnerable to cyclones, drastic changes in water level, soil erosion and rupture of embankment causing flood. The college is also close to Haldia industrial zone which causes pollution and damages natural resources. Considering the comprehensive threats of global warming and natural disasters, the institution takes measures to go beyond the curriculum and encourage its pupils to contribute towards sustaining mother earth.

  1. The Practice: The college aims to achieve the goal of Clean Earth, Green Earth by taking the following steps—

 

  1. Environmental Awareness:  The college
  • Observes programmes like Aranya Saptaha, Earth Day,
  • Arranges awareness rallies,
  • Distributes leaflets,
  • Organizes seminars,
  • Conducts field trips.
  1. Environmental Protection: The college
  1. Collaborates with specialized organizations of environmental protection like Purbasha Eco-Helpline Society for-
  • Mangrove plantation in Sunderbans
  • Distribution of saplings for encouraging afforestation
  1. Arranges plantation of saplings and vetiver grass along the banks of river Hooghly to prevent soil erosion and flooding
  2. Green Initiatives: The green initiatives of the college are
  • Creating a herbal garden and a landscaped garden in the campus
  • Placing flower pots in passages and roofs of the building
  • The college ensures an effective waste management system by following three R’s-
  1. Reduce—Providing waste bins, regular cleaning and disposal, e-waste management by Hulladek
  2. Reuse—Utilizing used plastic bottles
  3. Recycle—Recycling the decomposable waste into vermicompost
  • The college takes effective measures of energy management by-
  1. Installing solar panels 
  2. Installing energy-efficient LED tubes 
  3. Installing a rainwater harvesting system

 

  1. Community Outreach: The college aims to contribute to the locality by -
  1. Cleaning plastic from Hooghly and Haldi riverbanks
  2. Cleaning the canal for preventing water-pollution
  3. Cleaning the local tubewells for hygienic water resources

 

  1. Constraints/ Limitations faced: Satisfactory fulfilment of the projects undertaken were hindered by various factors like—
  1. Mangrove Plantation has a partial success rate to prevent soil erosion because approximately two percent of the plants finally survived.
  2. Creating eco consciousness among people for not polluting natural resources and not littering garbage around is a long-drawn process
