Green Initiative

Solar Panel

Solar energy is one of the green energy available in abundance which can meet the power crisis in near future without the use of fossil fuels. Solar energy is an infinite source of energy which is also a clean energy. Using solar energy for power generation will reduce the use of fossil fuels and it also produce pollution free electricity.

In this contest, our college has taken initiative in promoting green energy concepts in its campus. As a first step, we are installing 100kW solar power station on roof top of main building and will be operational within next six months.

The solar power station is of grid connected type. The generated power from the solar power station will meet the daily requirement of the college. It is a battery free system and thus ensures less maintenance.

Rain Water Harvesting

Water conservation has become the need of the day. Rainwater harvesting is a way to capture the rainwater at the time of downpour, store that water above the ground or charge the underground water and use it later. In this regard, our college has taken initiative to build rain water harvesting Plant in collaboration with the Ministry of Water way and Irrigation, Govt. of West Bengal for storing rain water and utilizing the same in gardens, toilets and other places that will reduce the demand of water consumption.Presently we have a water body inside the campus and is used to store rain water.

Organic Fertilizer

We have planned to prepare compost by decomposing vegetable/food waste from canteen. Our NSS units will take care of the project. By this way we will also be able to reuse some solid waste. We will use this compost in our gardens.

Medicinal Garden

A herbal garden is located at the south – west corner of Vivekananda Mission Mahavidyalaya. It was established in 2018 and plenty of herbal plants are available there now. This herbal garden helps the college students to acquire knowledge about various herbal plants, which will help them to solve various problems in their life. From this garden, students learn about the names and uses of various herbal plants that can be applied for various purposes. Apart from this, students of the department of botany have acquired taxonomical knowledge about the plants through this garden and we have been motivated to build a healthy society. There are various herbs, shrubs and tree plants in this garden.
